Staff Spotlight: Suleiman Adan

Say hello to our September Staff Spotlight: Suleiman Adan, Research in Action’s Human Resources Manager!

Before joining RIA in 2023, Suleiman held various roles in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), including DEI Coordinator and Director of Capacity Building at a race and gender equity firm. Suleiman has also worked in multiple HR roles both in the U.S. and internationally. He holds two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree in education and taught 4th and 5th grade for nearly five years. He is currently studying a Masters in Advanced Theology at the Chicago Theological Seminary through Bayan Seminary.

What brings you to this work?

My diverse experience as an HR Manager in various capacities across large and small organizations in the U.S. and internationally, including England and Ethiopia, brings me to this work. In this role, I can show up as my authentic self and be intentional in how I support employees. I strive to remove the stigma associated with HR, positioning myself as an aid in employees' professional journeys.

What do you like best about your work with RIA?

Dr. Lewis truly embodies our values. I observe her leading spaces internally with both research and non-research staff, partners, and clients. She consistently pushes the needle forward, living the mission and values of Research in Action.

What is something you have accomplished at RIA that you are proud of?

I'm proud of implementing coaching sessions for our managers. These sessions enable them to lead effectively and confidently in their diverse teams.

What brings you joy outside of work?

My daughter is my whole world. Every hope, dream, happiness, and joy I see in her pushes me to be a better Aabo (Dad), husband, DEI practitioner, and leader every day.
